Walter Energy Western Coal – Western Coal Falling Creek Connector
General Contractor for construction of a haul route through mountainous terrain to provide suitable off-highway hauling from the plant facilities at the Brule Mine to the rail load out on the CN Mainline at Pine Valley Coal. The total length of the route is 65 km and included:
- Clearing
- Grubbing
- Stripping
- Drilling and blasting
- Rock excavation (1,352,000 m3)
- General excavation (1,054,000 m3)
- Culverts (5,900 lm)
- Crushing and gravelling (170,000 m3)
- Geotextile (over 700,000 m2)
- Nine resource bridge structures
- 3 meter diameter culvert crossing with GRS walls
- Rip Rap
- Hydro seeding
- Environmental controls
- Gas pipeline crossings
Construction proceeded through the winter. Accommodations were provided through the installation and maintenance of two man amps facilities located on or adjacent to the project.
